The universe and the progenitor gods

0.The Realm breaker

Legend has it that a sword that split the universe into different realms was wielded by an almighty being, higher than the gods whose names are scattered across the universe. The sword was also said to be formless and moldable like clay, as it changed form depending on its wielder’s preferred weapon. In fact, this weapon was said to be so powerful that it was imbued with every element imaginable.Due to its insurmountable power, the sword was shattered into different pieces that were distributed to the progenitor gods and the gods that came after. They were tasked to be dutiful guardians of the pieces. Some say that if one were to defeat all the gods and collect all the pieces, they will be able to repair the realm breaker and become its wielder.

I.Light and dark

In the beginning, the universe was merely a mass of air and silence. When the first god—Nox, opened his eyes, he saw that there needed work to be done. And so, he got to work. With his hands he created worlds vast and wide, he filled them with water and struck them with thunder. But he came to realize that the worlds he had built were soulless and dark. That was when another god awoke— Stratvanovna. The god appeared as a mass of bright white light, driving away the darkness that approached him. He took a look at the other’s work, noticing what needed to be done. He rubbed his hands to create fire. With a flick of his wrists, he scattered the light, illuminating each world. The two weren’t quite satisfied with their work yet. No, they decided to populate the universe. The god who was born from darkness built humans in the likeness of himself and animals to roam the lands. The god who was born from the light saw that they were merely inanimate vessels. He filled those creatures with his blood and they were given life. The two gods came to be known as the Ars dyad. Individually, their powerful forms are known as Ars Astra for Stratvanovna and Ars Daevinium for Nox.

But the two gods still didn’t get along. They saw each other as competitors. Malice soon overcame them as they fought neck to neck. One had to be the universe’s rightful ruler. As the representatives of light and darkness themselves, they bent the earth to their will as they fought. The god of Light, Stratvanovna wielded a long, two-handed sword, moreso a polearm; with a blade that shone brighter than the sun called Fellhaim. It is said that with each dazzling strike, burning stars shot out of its blade. On the other hand, the god of Darkness, Nox, wielded dual blades called the Niflheim that could extend like shadowy whips. With each drop of blood Nox gets on his blades, the harder they strike. And without blood, the blades would be rendered useless.Their battle was that of legends long forgotten. With their vehement battle, the days were split into two—light and dark. The battle ended when the burning embers of Stratvanovna’s sword, Fellhaim, bled from Nox’s skin. With a decisive blow, the god of light overcame the darkness. Nox exhaled his final breath and damned the both of them equally, saying: “Cursed be your bloodline, they shall walk the path of eternal damnation, hiding from the shadows behind them. My fury will strike your descendants as I follow you for ages to come.” Along with the curse on his descendants, light magic lost its purpose as offensive magic. However, Fellhaim’s blade was never dulled. It is the only way light magic could be used to inflict harm.

II.Space and time

As the days were split into light and dark, the sun borne celestial bodies that encased the various worlds Nox had created. These heavenly bodies revolve around the mighty sun of Stratvanovna. Then emerged Odunn. He became known as the keeper of “space” and the heavenly bodies known as planets. However, the universe knew stagnance. It was still, unmoving. Light and dark were both present at the same time. Something had to be done. So, with his mighty hands, Odunn ripped off chunks from his heavenly bodies and created his wife, Chronologia. Upon her awakening, the light overpowered the dark. And as she slept, dark overcame light. The concept of time was created— a force that pushes the heavenly bodies into their revolutions around the sun.

III.The Devourer, Death and the Abyss

The creatures that roamed this vast universe were all immortal, much like their gods. Chronologia became dissatisfied with the power given to these lower beings, as she deemed them. Odunn saw them as rivals. Together they came to an agreement and bore a child. This child became known as Nihilum, The Devourer. Nihilum leeched off these creatures’ lifespans, and so they aged, and eventually began to die.He began getting hungrier as his power grew with each soul he absorbed. Growing to a gargantuan size, Nihilum began devouring various planets. With each planet he devoured, lives were paid as a cost. Odunn was enraged by his child’s reckless behavior towards the heavenly bodies he cared for. With the darkness creeping in, he slew his son at the end of each revolution, as he came back at the beginning again and again. This grew to be an arduous task. Dismembering Nihilum at the end of one cycle, Odunn formed a being to rival him, Barathum. Barathum was monstrous and matched The Devourer in size and strength. Tearing open space, Odunn created a realm at which the two would battle endlessly. The blood from Nihilum and Barathum’s battle spilled into the empty realm, creating what is known as the Abyss. The residents of the Abyss were born from the two gargantuans’ flesh that fell from their blades. They were called demons. These demons were monstrous in strength, fueled by Barathum's intense hatred for Nihilum. As such, the Abyss were split into two sects governed by the demonic kings, who remained neutral. They are the Temple of Nihilum and the Order of Barathum. Those in the Temple are demons of greed and lust. Those of the Order are demons of wrath and pride.
